Chapter 5: A Friendly Game of Go

While Otomo Kambei works for days in the castle’s library, the rest of the group are left to pass the days as they will. Taking in a kabuki play one night, Yomitsu spots two Lion samurai in the audience. He convinces the rest of the group to follow the Lions after the show.

Chapter 4: To Shiro Shiba

Saburo and Hemakshi load Yomitsu’s unconscious body over Hemakshi’s horse. Saburo takes the Egg, and they set out to leave the city. They wander for hours before they find their way out and can make their way back to the inn.

Inside, they find Kimura sitting and reading a scroll. When Yomitsu is brought in, Kimura gives a brief prayer to the kami and tells them to bring Yomitsu to his bed. He’ll be fine, but needs rest. With Yomitsu taken care of, Kimura asks about what happened. The tale is told, but any mention of the Egg is left out.

Chapter 3: Morikage Toshi

The innkeeper is pleased to have guests, claiming his new guests are his first since the snows began to melt.

After dinner, Otomo Kambei regales his retainers with the story of Morikage Toshi. He tells of the Phoenix who convinced his lord to let him marry his love, rather than the Agasha to whom he was betrothed. The jilted Agasha laid a curse upon the entire city, that even the Elemental Council of the Phoenix has been unable to remove. The nearby forest grew into and over the city, taking over and driving the inhabitants out.

Chapter 2: Honor with Horses

Otomo Kambei and his retinue set off for Shiro Shiba. Several days of travel passed. Stopping for an afternoon meal at Three Pebble Village, the samurai are approached by the village headman. The peasant pleads with the samurai, saying that a troupe of bandits that is known to operate in the area has been spotted approaching the village. The samurai turn to Kambei and ask if they can delay their departure to deal with this threat. Kambei agrees to their request.

Chapter 1: Gathering at Nikesake

Shiba Yomitsu, being the only survivor of a Lion attack on his home of Eagle Nest Village during which his parents were both killed, begins a journey toward Shiro Shiba, to report the incident and gain some more direction for himself. Just before dying, his mother pressed a large egg-like object into his hands, and told him to protect it, and to get it into the hands of the right people. She died before she could elaborate.

Sessions

Just a quick note about our sessions before I start writing them up.

Due to scheduling issues, our group only gets together to play for a couple hours at a time. No long epic sessions for us. We’ve tried to play weekly, but with my job and other constraints, I can’t keep up. Therefore, we now plan for biweekly sessions. We still can’t manage to play quite that often, again due to scheduling issues with everyone involved, and things like illness and the like rearing their heads as well.

As I start this blog, the game is already in progress. We’ve already played six sessions (I think). This means that the write-ups for the first few sessions will be largely based on memory, and will likely only include the highlights. Further write-ups should be more detailed.

Bushido

Honesty. Courage. Compassion. Courtesy. Sincerity. Duty. Honor.

In Rokugan, these are more than simply words. These are the virtues of bushido, the code by which samurai live and die.
